Protecting Yourself

Steps to help keep you safe

With many years experience in the on-line expense management industry, we have identified a number of tips and techniques which can help our customers to help themselves and minimise their exposure to security dangers and breaches. These include:

Do not respond to suspicious emails

All card issuers and banks are facing a current trend of official-looking e-mails being issued, asking you to provide details such as your credit card number. Alternatively, they might direct you to a website which looks like your card issuer's site and ask you to enter personal details. This is called 'Phishing' for information.

To protect yourself against this, always check the address of any website you are visiting or being directed to, and make sure the site is a trusted site. Do not feel pressured to give information as most Phishing attempts will make it sound urgent or critical that you provide this information.

To confirm, the Bank will never ask you to provide credit card details, user credentials, or any personal information in an e-mail or over the phone. If you do receive a request like this, please report it immediately to your FlexiPurchase Administrator and the FlexiPurchase helpdesk.

Keep your usernames and passwords safe

In general when using any site, not just FlexiPurchase, you should ensure you keep your password safe. This includes making your password more complex than a simple word, and use a different password for each site you use. Change your password regularly and remember to close down all browser windows when you finish any internet sessions.

Public computers and Internet Cafes

Internet availability is higher than ever and increasing dramatically, however, as convenient as this is when travelling, you should be very cautious when using a public shared computer.

If you do need to use a computer in an Internet Cafe then check to make sure it has virus protection installed and is up-to-date and only use places that you are sure are reputable and professional wherever possible. Avoid doing any personal banking in an Internet Cafe as you need to assume your interactions are being monitored. If you have accessed your e-mail or banking then you should change your password immediately when you are next on a secure computer.

Use antivirus software

Your computer should always be protected by antivirus software. Within your business you may be protected by a corporate antivirus solution and if you are in doubt you should ask your IT department. At home, it is highly recommended that you use antivirus software, no matter how safe you believe you may be. If you have any questions about how to use Antivirus software you should ask your IT department.

Keep your computer up to date

Both Windows and Apple provide regular free updates to their operating systems, and all browsers are also upgraded on a regular basis. For Microsoft you should familiarise yourself with 'Windows Update' and have it check for updates at least weekly and if you are in doubt, you should ask your IT department.

Visit Internet Safety Websites

With the growing pervasiveness of the internet, Government bodies around the world are establishing an array networks and agencies to help keep you safe on the internet. Some websites from around the world that you may find useful are: www.netalert.net.au
